Who's Who in 2009

You might be glad to know that the A-Z of Australian Gymnastics site, my faaaaavourite resource on the web - save for www.chocolatecafesinmelbournewherecliveowenmightonedaybe.com - has been updated in the last few days (but I'm not on the links page? Frown.).

Profiles of senior and junior athletes as well as retired ones (sniff! So many 2008-ers!) have been updated, including national rankings and competition results as of the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

Love your work, girls.

The Gym Vic has a list of Vic athletes who made the new WAG national squads.

Does anyone know why Emma Dennis was kicked off the AIS/GA Olympic Squad?

Melanie Jones was also bumped off both the national team and the Olympic Squad according to the list.

And Britt Greeley made both squads, so is now fully funded. She was scoring in the 12s and 13s at AYOF so I don't really understand that.....

Hi, Seems like the place to ask but is Naomi Russell still competing? I've just not heard much from her since Commonwealth 06 and always wondered.

No, she retired after 2008 nationals.

I think Mel Jones had surgery and probably was unable to attend a camp, same with Emma (though injury not surgery?). I think the funding is 'camp funding' and if a gymnast isn't attending the camp then the funding is allocated to someone else? Not entirely sure but that would make sense.

They do update the awuads quaterly as far as I can tell

The placement is until nationals. But Emma and Melanie were both at the recent camp, which is why I don't understand. It is true AFAIK about the surgery and injury but usually they petition onto the squads. Ashleigh didn't show at the camp at all but still got a national squad place, after all.

Does anyone else think it's strange that Gym Vic has the squads up but as far as I can see, GA doesn't and neither does any other state. I would like to know who the rest of the squad is too.
